On the Happiness of Others | An Honest Blog

On the Happiness of Others | An Honest Blog
I love the people in my life, but I can’t make them happy and I’m done trying.

For a long time, I’ve held myself responsible for the happiness of the other people in my life. I’ve pushed myself to the brink of exhaustion and I’ve realized that it doesn’t really make a difference. It only leaves me feeling underappreciated and unsatisfied.

I came to the realization that nobody asked me to.

I naturally took it upon myself to always try to be infallible and every time I felt like I didn’t met these imaginary expectations I internalized them as a sign of my self-worth. I was being disparaging to those around me by not realizing that they were as capable if not more capable in some regards of handling their own lives and their own problems.

Loving ourselves should always be our first priority because when you’re happy and satisfied with where you are in life you’re less likely to lash out or feel as though you’re entitled to certain reactions from others.

More importantly, you don’t feel like you need their validation to feel happy.
