How To Keep Travel From Ruining Your Relationship

How To Keep Travel From Ruining Your Relationship

It can be hard to keep that spark of romance alive in any relationship. Between work, kids, school, or whatever else you have going on it can feel like sometimes you’re just not really present in your own relationship. And travel can add additional stress to that.

Depending on your significant other’s job, you’re looking at an average of 12 travel trips a year each of which lasts 4 days.

If your significant other is a CPA, in the armed forces, works in construction, or any of those other fields you’re probably looking at more time away from home. It can start feeling really daunting after an extended period of time.

Here are some simple ideas to make these seemingly endless periods of time less painful:

  1. Ditch texting and try to make time to Skype/Facetime – Texting has zero tone and emojis do little to alleviate that issue. They also tend to seem impersonal and they don’t convey the same amount of feeling as actually seeing a person’s face. It can be kind of difficult to set aside the time to keep a Skype date, but you’ll be thankful you did.
  2. Try sending a letter and package – An “I love you” text message doesn’t hold the same weight as something physical that shows you spent some thought putting together. In situations like this, it’s always nice to show that you’ve put some extra emotional investment.
  3. Then there’s always this – This is fun and playful and it definitely adds some spice back into your relationship. Do this while Facetiming and you’re bound to have a fun time.

Do you have any good ideas for keeping the flame alive in a long distance relationship and/or with travel?
